What is a D.Group?

D-Groups are intentionally small, Christ-centered groups designed to help believers grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus through consistent time in God’s Word, prayer, accountability, and authentic community. Typically made up of 3-5 people of the same gender, D-Groups meet weekly to read Scripture together, discuss what God is teaching them, encourage one another spiritually, and pray for one another. The goal is not simply to gain more knowledge, but to pursue transformation through obedience to God’s Word and faithful discipleship.

Each gathering is centered around Scripture and spiritual growth through the provided reading plan. Members are encouraged to come prepared, having spent personal time in God’s Word throughout the week. During the meeting, the group discusses biblical truths, shares victories and struggles, asks honest questions, and encourages one another to live faithfully for Christ. D-Groups are designed to create a safe and intentional environment where believers can grow in spiritual maturity, develop meaningful relationships, and ultimately disciple others as they continue the process of making disciples.

How does a D.Group work?

D-Groups are designed to be simple, intentional, flexible, and relational. Each group will typically meet once a week for about an hour, at a time and place that works best for the members of the group. There is no required location or rigid structure—some groups may meet in homes, coffee shops, restaurants, offices, or around a kitchen table. The goal is simply to create consistent space to gather together around God’s Word and encourage one another in Christ.

During each meeting, group members will discuss the weekly reading plan and share what verses, sections, days, truths, or observations stood out most to them throughout the week. Together, the group will pray for one another, encourage one another through life’s challenges and victories, and help keep one another focused on following Jesus faithfully. D-Groups are more than just a Bible study—they are an opportunity to build genuine Christian friendships, grow spiritually together, and simply do life together in biblical community.

What does being part of a D.Group look like?

D-Groups are best formed intentionally and prayerfully. Ideally, each group will consist of 3-5 people of the same gender who are committed to growing together spiritually through God’s Word, prayer, encouragement, and accountability.  These are considered "closed groups" after they are formed, but not so closed that flexibility is eliminated. The purpose for the "closed group" approach is that these groups share openly about life and their journeys. Many times this becomes complicated as a new person comes joins the group several weeks or months down the road.  Keeping the groups smaller helps create meaningful conversation, consistency, openness, and deeper relationships among members. While friendships often naturally lead to forming a group, D-Groups should ultimately be centered around a shared desire to follow Christ and help one another grow in spiritual maturity.

Age diversity within a D-Group can also be a tremendous blessing. Bringing together believers from different seasons of life allows for wisdom, encouragement, mentorship, and fresh perspective within the group. Younger believers can learn from the faithfulness and experiences of older believers, while older believers are encouraged by the passion and growth of younger generations. The goal is not to create groups based solely on similarity, but to build Christ-centered relationships where believers sharpen, strengthen, and disciple one another as they walk through life together.

WHAT'S NEXT?

One of the most important aspects of a D-Group is reproduction. The goal is not simply to complete a study or spend a season growing together, but to equip and encourage every participant to eventually invest in others the same way they have been invested in. As group members grow in their walk with Christ through Scripture, prayer, accountability, and authentic community, our hope is that they will develop both the confidence and desire to disciple others as well.

At the conclusion of a D-Group season, the hope and prayer is that each person would prayerfully consider forming a new D-Group of their own with 3-5 other people. In this way, discipleship continues to multiply throughout the church and community. Just as someone intentionally poured into them, they now have the opportunity to pour into others. This reproducing process reflects the heart of biblical discipleship—followers of Jesus helping others follow Jesus. Over time, this creates a culture where believers are continually growing, investing, encouraging, and making disciples who make disciples.
